Africa travel to the world's top nature reserve
The second largest continent in the world Africa with an estimated population of 700 million, Africa is an obvious choice for
travellers.
The economic stronghold lies in South Africa, where most of the trade for the south of the African region takes place. South Africa is also a booming tourism
area. Table Mountain, so-called because of its flat top, is a landmark that always draws visitors in. The big cities of
Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban are also must-sees for travellers.
The eastern region of Africa is where you will find some of the most spectacular wildlife reserves on the
world. There are more than 200 national parks in south and eastern Africa and these pull in visitors hoping to get a glimpse of a big cat in its natural habitat. These national reserves include ones on the Serengeti
plains, Kruger National Park and the Virunga Volcanoes, where more than half of the remaining mountain gorilla population left in the world can be
found.
There are six independent island states with close associations to Africa, and some of these are also hugely popular tourist
destinations. The Cape Verde Islands, which can be found off the coast of Senegal, has become a mecca for
holidaymakers. Colonised by the Portuguese but with a distinct African
feel, Cape Verde boasts magnificent beaches, especially in Santa Maria which is the main tourist
area.
Other popular African islands for holidaymakers includes Mauritius and the
Seychelles. These are considered luxury resorts and offer everything you would find on a Caribbean
island, and more.
Zambia offers more wildlife opportunities, from tracking in the Luangwa national parks to bird
watching. The Zambezi river and the Victoria Falls offer fabulous views for
travellers, and the Falls especially are a sight that has to be seen by anyone lucky enough to travel to this area of
Africa.
Malawi is famous for its huge lake that gives this landlocked area its own beach
area, complete with gorgeous sand. Malawi also has fantastic safari
opportunities.
As if all this Africa has to offer is not enough, Kenya is a wildlife lovers
paradise. Home to one of the most famous game-viewing regions in the world, the Masai Mara, this part of Africa also boasts beautiful
beaches. Its neighbour Tanzania is another area full of sights. Mount Kilamanjaro is
here, and is one of the most spectacular sights in Africa. The mountain is actually a
volcano, and is not yet extinct. The climb may look daunting, but it is possible to do without a great deal of technical
knowledge. Good footwear, warm clothing and a guide. You will feel the burn as you
climb, but it will be well worth it for the spectacular views at the top.
Africa has stunning beaches and the most amazing wildlife reserves and game-viewing regions in the
world. For a mix of the wild and the relaxing, Africa is the place to travel
to.
