No time for siestas in Spain
Some travellers may know that among other things, Spain is famed for flamenco, tapas and
siestas. Morning lasts until 2pm in the afternoon, meals and siestas then take place before it’s back to work around 5pm for a few more
hours.
However, visitors to Spain will find there is so much to do and see that there is quite simply no time for a
siesta. The many fabulous holiday destinations available in this colourful country make sure of
that.
Many places in Spain, like Benidorm, Magaluf, Ibiza and the Canary Islands, have developed a British feel to
them, due the thousands of people who visit from the UK every year looking for
sun, sea and sangria. Here you will find beaches packed with bronzed
bodies, all night parties, fish and chips and aqua parks. They are
cheap, full of fun and guaranteed to leave you feeling worse for wear at some
point. |

But if it’s not home from home that you are looking for, then delve further into the depths of Spain and see what else it has to offer. Puerto Banus, just a short distance from Marbella, is where you will find the rich and the beautiful. It is not uncommon to see an A-list celebrity visiting the local shops, and with about 300 days of sunshine every year, they can pop up at any time.
The region of Galicia, in the north west of the country is gaining in popularity. It boasts more coastline than any other region in the country, and therefore has more beaches. There is one slight downside in that the region is situated on the Altlantic Ocean, rather than the Mediterranean Sea, meaning the water temperature can be pretty cold. Santiago de Compostela is the main city in the region, and while it has a wealth of stunning architecture for visitors to feast their eyes upon, it is also an ideal base from which to explore Galicia.
The Andalucia region is home to a number of favourite resorts, like Torremolinos and Fuengirola. One of the jewels in the area though has to be Nerja, with 16 kilometres of beaches and fascinating caves. One of these caves has even been transformed into a concert hall, which hosts a number of performances throughout the summer months. It has escaped most of the high-rise concrete blocks that have sprouted up in other resorts and the old quarter of the town remains relatively unspoilt.
A quick search on Spain will throw up a fabulous array of walking, hiking and driving holidays, meaning those wanting to be a bit more active during their breaks can find something to suit them. Those with money to burn can join the jet set in Puerto Banus and Marbella, those looking for history and architecture can find it in the cities of Barcelona and Madrid and those looking for fun and frolics in the sun can head for the Costas. All in all, whatever your reason for travel, Spain has got it
covered.
