Getting the most out of Turkey
Young travellers are often on a budget, meaning the cheaper they can get to their chosen
destination like Turkey, the better.
Turkey has long had a reputation as the bargain-basement travel destination of the
Mediterranean, and while prices are on the rise, there are many fantastic deals that will let you see this rich and diverse history for an excellent
price.
The country of Turkey spans two continents, straddling Europe and the Middle
East. It is a country that has seen much modernisation in recent
years, but one that has not lost the charm, rich history and beauty of its past.

From its capital Istanbul to the heady night-life scenes in Gumbet and
Bodrum, visitors to Turkey will encounter some of the friendliest people they are ever likely to meet. The people here are renowned for their
hospitality. Add this to a beautiful coastline, fantastic food and some stunning sights and it is hard to see why travel to this part of Europe has been so cheap for so long.

Variety is the name of the game in Istanbul, and it should come as no surprise seeing as it is the only capital city in the world to have its feet in two continents. It is the hub of commerce, history and culture for the country, but a place where the modern metropolis exists side by side with the ancient past.
Young travellers will probably head to the party capitals of Turkey – Gumbet, Marmaris and Bodrum. But don't think that means history and culture is left behind at the airport. Far from it in fact. While the people here know how to party long and hard, they are also fiercely proud of the area's great past. One feature is the stunning amphitheatre located in the hills overlooking Bodrum. This site became an open-air museum in 1973, after excavations were complete.
Gumbet is another top holiday destination, famed for water sports and its night-life. It has fantastic beaches and an abundance of restaurants and bars. It is close to Bodrum, making it an ideal destination to get the best from both resorts.
Generally speaking, Turkey is a safe place to visit. However, there have been a few incidents in recent years that mean it is a good idea to keep an eye on the news for any warnings. In general though, there should be no reason to worry. It is advisable to be cautious if you are visiting an area of Turkey near to the Iraq border. This area is considered extremely dangerous, and it is advisable to take expert travel advice before visiting rural areas near the Syrian and Iran borders. But with so many other beautiful areas of the country to visit, it should be easy to find somewhere other than these areas to spend a holiday.
Turkey has a varied history and some amazing sights. It has remnants of its ancient past existing happily alongside a pulsating night-life scene. To find a better destination for the same price would be difficult for any young
traveller.
